Art-Net Mapping Tester v3

Standalone Python 3 Art-Net diagnostic utility with a browser UI. No external packages.

Start

python3 app.py --bind 0.0.0.0 --port 8080

Open http://<pi-ip>:8080 from a trusted LAN. Select controller IP and universe in the UI. Scan raw DMX channels 1–512 with values 0–255, then record each observed light's XYZ and region. Export one compact mapping.json covering all controllers and universes. Mapping observations are saved automatically after each record.

Format

Version 2 JSON groups by controller IP, universe ID, and physical pixel coordinates; channels are stored under top, bottom, or unknown. Legacy version 1 flat JSON is read automatically and converted to v2 on the next save/export. Existing files should be backed up before upgrading. The eventual volumetric renderer must implement the v2 loader (or flatten it at startup).

Safety

Only run on an isolated, trusted lighting LAN with operator approval. Testing sends zero values to all other channels in the selected universe. Do not run during a show. Changing target blackouts the previous target. Output automatically blackouts after 30 seconds without control commands. The UI supports 255 but start at a low level to avoid dazzling or overdriving fixtures. The controller must use Art-Net universe numbering compatible with the 0–32767 field.
